Who does IT?

Although there are people in some professions that take care of their own IT equipment and tooling, there will always be employees who expect their internal IT department—or person—to take care of them. Why? Because of the associated costs and knowledge of doing IT.

Who picks up the check?

Not many employees want to pay for the IT equipment and tooling that they use at work. Even if they have bought the latest gadget themselves, they still want to be financially compensated one way or the other. But if the company has to pay, then the company—small or large—wants to apply financial controls. That is why companies use financial approval workflows.

Who has the knowledge?

Not all employees have or want to have the necessary knowledge to take care of their IT equipment and tooling. For many, a laptop is a tool that should just work. They have better things to do than to keep their system running. They want to be unburdened. That is why there is an IT department—or person—in the first place.

Who isn't allowed to do IT?

Once an IT department—or person—is in place, things change. Not everyone will be allowed to create a company email address. Not everyone will be allowed to access the financial systems. It comes with the territory. Employees need to navigate through all these restrictions that are put in place. That is why you see request workflows and product/service catalogs pop up.

So now what?

OK, so the internal business IT arena will never be a completely open market. The internal IT department—or person—will be the monopolist who controls what employees can order and have access to.

How does MyDock fit into this? Well, long gone are the days when employees agreed to use paper product/service catalogs to choose from. That is, if these catalogs even existed in the first place. The employee has become a consumer who knows how to shop online. A consumer who expects his order to be delivered quickly. At home and at work.

The IT department needs a solution to sell its products and services to its own users. A solution that offers the same functionality as an internet shop. Without payment processing, but with approval workflow.
